The management team at Indequip adheres to standards set by managing director Ian Simpson, who has decades of experience working within the fluid power industry and has an appreciation of all markets and industry sectors.
He started his career working for a large Northwest distributor supporting the end user markets, and began studying pneumatics and robotics in order to offer more solutions and support to the end user. Pneumatics quickly grabbed his interest, particularly fluid power. Quickly working his way up the ladder at the Northwest company, he soon became an area manager looking after three of their branches.
In 1994, Ian decided to move on and seek further career opportunities within the pneumatics industry. Metal Work, a major Italian pneumatics manufacturer, approached him and he accepted a position working within this field. He spent the next nine years at Metal Work, becoming extremely versatile in working within the original equipment manufacturer and the distribution markets. His main area was to work with the distributors and build their business within the areas.
Ian brings all this experience to his role at Indequip. “My forte will and has always been my interaction with the customers,” he says. “I listen to the needs of the customers and wherever possible help in changing systems and procedures to keep on giving the customers what they need. To me, Indequip is an approachable company and so am I.”
In addition to expanding warehouse space, Ian also plans on expanding Indequip’s customer base while keeping the focus on the best service to clients.
“I’ve got some really brilliant customers, but they’re more friends now,” he says. “I’ve had customers that have come to my wedding. I’ve socialized with them. It is about relationships. There are too many people in this industry or in life in general that are just looking out for themselves and a quick buck. I’m very conscious that this company needs sales to move forward, but I’m also conscious of the fact that we have to do it right.”
